Superhero Plague

A young boy is killed at a school shooting and arson. When investigators are unable to find any evidence to how the crime was committed, the boy’s body is brought to Saffron Labs, a company who performs autopsies on those who die under strange circumstances.
What Saffron discovers is the next step in human evolution. The young boy has the genes that give humans eternal life, flight, underwater breathing, anything and everything imaginable and almost instantaneously. When Saffron’s parent company, Bruno Medical Technologies, gets word of this discovery, they steal Saffron’s resources and pool them into a different lab, where they make a synthetic version of the young boy’s genes, which have catastrophic side effects, and sell it as medication.
Taking place over multiple decades in the future United States that’s been ravaged by the genesis of a global flood, Martha Zimmerman, a prominent employee at Saffron attempts to find a cure as the United States falls into a violent, super powered dystopia.
