Description

What if there was a nuclear war? What would really happen afterwards? There have been many novels written on the subject, but these seldom deal with the topic in a realistic fashion. Instead, the story lines tend to be built around bigger-than-life characters who struggle to overcome nearly impossible odds in highly dystopian scenarios. But, in truth, the reality after such an event would be much different. There will be no super heroes in a post-apocalyptic world. In fact, there will be few heroes at all. The people who, for better or worse, are left behind by luck or design would be, for the most part, very ordinary and the obstacles in their path would difficult to overcome.
During the first few years after such an event most of those persons who manage to survive the initial onslaught of a nuclear war will have died. This would be the case because they were not prepared, physically or otherwise, to overcome the hardships. The reasons why these people would not make will be explored in the pages of this novel. Likewise, there will be some who, at the end of the painful period, come out virtually unscathed. These are the survivalists.
In this book, the story will be centered around a divorced man who happened to be going to the mountains with his two kids for a Thanksgiving vacation when the bombs fall. But the story is not only about these three individuals, but also about the many others with whom they come in contact, including some persons who become members of a new family-like social unit living in a secluded part of the country, as well as the many other members of the new society in which they live.
This is Part Five of the series. It deals with the expansion of the group of survivors that live in this community and how they come to be members.
