Description
These writings are a collection of poems and short stories written by my Mother, Marie Hanrahan Traversa, many years ago. She was a wife, mother of 9 children, provider, a single mom, avid gardener and a dreamer. Marie born in 1915 lived for 85 years and died in a nursing home in 2000. Although never published she was an avid reader who aspired to writing. It’s in her memory that I have compiled and published some of her work here.
Marie wrote about what moved her at the time, something about her family or maybe one of her children’s school projects. Marie projected a strong and tough persona but as you read you will begin to see a very vulnerable and lonely woman emerge Maybe it has to do with age.
I have found 22 poems and short stories and even a one act play;
IF I COULD TELL THE YOUNG FOLKS, A MOTHER’S ADVICE. FIRST TIME GRANDMA, BUDGETS, A ONE ACT PLAY, A STUDY IN MOTION, THE PRETENDER, NEW HOUSE DILEMMA, PRETTY GIRLS DON’T NEED TICKETS, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS, SUZI, JIM, AND THE FRIENDLY CAT, “SOMETHING AS BIG AS WEST LEYDEN H.S.â€, THE CASE OF THE MISSING GIRDLE, THE MAILMAN’S LAMENT, THE WAY I FEEL THIS CHRISTMAS, WISHFULL THINKING, THE MECHANICAL DOLL, NO TIME TO SAY GOODBY, MY DAD – A CHARACTER SHETCH, JUST THOUGHTS, DREAMING, LIFE AFTER SIXTY FIVE.
