A Prodigal Path: My Journey of Hope and Happiness

The content of this book was never meant to be discovered. In fact, I never, ever wanted to write this book at all. The experiences I record make up some of the most sacred source material of my sometimes sordid history, and I was really counting on the Lord's forgetfulness (Heb. 8:12) as a welcomed companion to His forgiveness. Nevertheless, what would discipleship be without a willingness to dive as Christ dove, endure the crosses of the world, and despise the shame of it? (2 Ne. 9:18). As such, here I am - naked, vulnerable, and absolutely terrified!

This book began as a quiet plea in behalf of my family, when suddenly the quiet broke as a knowledge of the Lord’s tender desire for me began to dance in my mind. As He often does, He gave me a glimpse – just a glimpse of the destination. Yet the journey, with all of its twists and turns, would largely allude me for the next year and a half. As it turns out, I only saw the top-most part of the iceberg. Now, these many months later, I’m still not convinced I’ve even broken the water’s surface.

Within the pages of this book, which feels a lot more like an extended journal entry than a book, I have uncovered the long hidden secret of my past addiction to what I can only call the great multi-headed Hydra of my life – pornography. For 15 years I battled the Hydra as it shook its violence and terror across the landscape of my early adolescence through adulthood, leaving in its wreckage nearly everything I held most dear. But, its ultimate victory was not to be, for just as He promised, the Savior of the world came for me. He left the ninety-and-nine in search for one – me. Indeed He did find me, and now many years later in the full light of the Sun, I have been asked to stand as a witness of the enemy's defeat unto all those still waging their very private wars.

Along with my prodigal story, I speak of five key principles which if rightly understood and applied will absolutely and unequivocally liberate all – yes all from the bondage of addiction and its extensive consequences. Addiction, whether to pornography, alcohol, drugs, food, anger, or any other of its many manifestations, does not have to be a life sentence. It can be overcome, and I don’t mean through dormancy. Through Christ the Lord, addiction, along with every other weakness and imperfection, can become a strength.
