Her police cruiser was blocking her own car, so she opted on it. The force encouraged personnel use to put a larger police presence on the street. The fact that she wore her uniform only spoke of the time she would save later coming home to change for her shift. She didn’t allow herself to think any further.

The station was quiet. Wednesday mornings were average; it didn’t start hopping until closer to the weekend.

She asked the clerk for Garrett’s status and learned that he had already seen the judge, rescheduled the court date, and was being processed out. She went outside and leaned against the car to wait.
When he hit the sidewalk and spotted her, he stopped.

He tilted his head, flashing her a sexy smile. “I knew you couldn’t stay away.”
