Oaf: A Novelette

A new novelette by speculative fiction author Samuel Brower. Little Randal Daniels lives in the farm town of Franklin with his mother and two brothers. Randal's father passed away when Randal was only two, and life isn't easy for his family. It would be impossible, in fact, if not for the help of the Tetleys, a neighboring couple. Mr. Tetley, an old war buddy of Randal's late father, and his wife are the wealthiest family in Franklin, and generous enough to help families in need. A rumor—roused by a terrible drought, and spread by jealous townsfolk—puts Randal and the Tetleys in the way of a dangerous situation, which could have dire consequences. But, with the mysterious arrival of the Tetleys’ new guard dog, a giant beast of unknown breed lovingly called “Oaf”, Randal, Mr. Tetley, and Mrs. Tetley may just make it through the harrowing event with their lives.
