Joseph Cassidy suffers a great emotional trauma. In blind rage, he drives recklessly across Chicago and ends up crashing.
When he wakes up, he starts experiencing odd things. People share their fears and mistakes, without him having asked them. They talk in a nonsensical manner. Everyone gets a strange, far away look, whenever they look at him.
