Description

In a Vedic marriage, man and woman take oath for the practice of self-restraint, to work together for the welfare of the family, and help each other attain spiritual peace.
From Ideals of Hindu Marriage

Hinduism is the root of tantric philosophy, yoga, Ayurvedic and the Kama Sutra so they're all related. The Hindu love book is the Kama Sutra as discussed in another section. Another one is The Hindu Art of Love written by Kalyana Malla in India in 1200.

Yoga uses the seven chakras of cosmic energy known as Kundalini. The objective is to focus beyond one's self on the divine to burst through your limitations and come to a Higher Truth.

Hindu gods are avatars, shining beams of radiant energy in the form of archetypal people whom you use to draw energy from. Brahma/ Vishnu/ Shiva is the holy trinity of the one Supreme God just like Allah, Glooscap or God the Father.

India is the major country where Hinduism is practiced with many different gods ranging from a rat god to Ganesh, the elephant god who drinks milk out of spoons.

As far as I know, the major books are the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Bhagavad-Gita and the Keeta Bible located at #294.5 or BL128.3 to BL624 at the library. The Hindu religion has three main gods which symbolize the three main aspects of life:

Brahma, Atman-Brahman, the creator.

Vishnu, the preserver along with lesser similar gods Rama and Krishna.

Shiva, the destroyer.

Shiva is actually a good god, the lord of the dance who represents change, the life, death and rebirth of everything as life goes on in a universal spiritual flow.

Shakti is the female version of Shiva, both lovers each with a distinct energy; male energy and female energy.Another couple are Rama and Sita.

Although sex during menstruation is considered a breach of Hindu morality, some left-handed schools of Tantra encourage sex during the woman's menstruation period in order to unite the man's semen with the woman's blood.

There are five types of love in the Hindu tradition going from lowest to the highest form:

Love which comes from rules or obeying your boss/ master, more a loyalty or dedication to work.

The love of a friend.

Parent-child love.

Love and marriage, spouse for spouse.

An obsession with love, nothing but love for your love object on your mind, the search for love that transcends mundane reality.

We must let go of everything, all material possessions in order to follow the flow of life.

Shiva is a noble, strong man with long, flowing hair that is said to be the Ganges River. Shakti which means energy is the female lifeforce closely allied to sexual energy due to a woman's fertility.

I've never been to India so I heard two conflicting viewpoints about it. One was a radio report from Delhi which stated that Indians are monogamous, proper people who never display affection out in public.

You will never see them kissing in public because if you kiss someone, it shows intent of sex which is a private thing yet India makes the most movies in the world, many of them patterned after American sex and violence types with lots of gunfire and big busted babes.

My perception of the Hindu religion which I got by watching a Hindu pilgrimage show on TV where a bunch of them went to the Ganges River to cleanse themselves in some ritual was that they're a very chaste people who take their religion and family values seriously.
In their history, they were a passionate people as evident by the Kama Sutra and images on the walls of temples showing depictions of people making love.

The other viewpoint I heard was from a British guy who lived there who said the men often die younger and earlier than the women due to wars, working too hard, etc. so there's a glut of women around so men can have up to 50 wives provided they can provide for them.
In the caste system of India, it's a great advantage to marry into a higher caste.
