Freud and Empedocles

Freud considered Empedocles his truest predecessor, and Freud identified his own work as a twentieth-century scientific version of Empedocles's ancient insight and doctrines. This essay examines the relation between the two thinkers in what is perhaps the longest single text on this subject in existence.
