Confederate Gold: An August Rowan Novel

After becoming orphaned and surviving the fall of the Confederate States, August Rowan is adopted by his uncle, a crippled gunslinger turned gunsmith. After attempting to put his personal losses and a Confederate government secret behind him, August’s path puzzlingly crosses that of an eccentric black man named Cato Tucker. Their journey takes them west to Nevada’s mining towns, as their search for the Confederate gold’s location intensifies. But reality is not what August originally thought it was. In fact, it’s far more complicated. With their growing friendship, Cato as the mentor and August as the protégé, they struggle to survive in a dangerous new environment. After several missteps with peculiar locals, they find themselves pursued by a racist sheriff and his posse who will only be satisfied once August and Cato are both hanged.

But is Cato truly who he claims to be or does he lack the moral character that August originally saw in him? Will the search for the lost gold lose its appeal when a gang of infamous outlaws joins in the search for the very same gold? Or are the perplexing circumstances around the gold too much for August and Cato to piece together before their own deaths are added to the mystery?
