COTTON SONG BOOK TWO: Hidden at Natchez

Karen has helped Ben, the handsome slave, escape from her uncle John Frederick's plantation to the nearby city of Natchez, Mississippi.

But their journey together can only get harder from there, as the city is one of the epicenters of the slave trade, and they both know that Frederick, or much worse, his hateful overseer Blaine McCormick, could be hot on their tail.

While hidden in a storehouse near the banks of the great river, they are discovered by a man named John Muerell, a man who values the almighty dollar above any anachronistic Southern concept of racial purity. Muerell decides not to turn them in, as he has his eyes set on another prospect.

While there in Natchez, Karen and Ben grow ever closer. To each other, and to the reconciliation of multiple forces that influence their lives.

Karen can never know the burdens of a slave, being a white woman, but she does know the stifling heat and oppressive dynamics of plantation life. And the hope for a better future, a free future where blacks and whites can intermingle at will, keeps her passions kindled.
