This book is a collection of four stories: Marines Against the Swarm, Orbiting Armageddon, The Monster Slayer: Vampire Season, and The Bounty Hunter: Resurrection.
Marines Against the Swarm -- A non-stop, unrelenting action sequence of brutal warfare between the humans and the vicious aliens known as the Dross.
This short story follows the struggles of Jack, a soldier sent on a suicide mission to lure as many of the infesting aliens as he can back to a fortified position. The plan: to hold out against a swarm of seemingly unending alien monsters until they can destroy their colony for good. Jack soon learns that not everyone will make it out of the battle in one piece.
Orbiting Armageddon -- In this short story, the Earth is still around--but barely. Three astronauts in orbit around the planet witness the third and final world war. As more people die below, an ancient power begins to awaken.
The Monster Slayer: Vampire Season -- The second novella in the series finds Kate dealing with vampires for the first time: a threat that hides in plain sight and can blend in with the humans around them. Harkam's Bridge finds two of its townsfolk murdered by the monsters and calls on Kate to protect them; however, not every monster can be confronted so easily. There are many suspects and, most troubling of all, secrets that her past self left behind.
The Bounty Hunter: Resurrection -- The first book in series two offers a recap of series one and expands the story's universe. On the planet Liveria, a rain drenched cityscape covers the entire world. Criminals run unchecked in the lower levels of the city, where it's too dangerous for even the planet's authorities to risk investigations. Burke and Cass take the job of tracking and apprehending two escaped convicts that have carved their way through the city, leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake. As with most of their contracts, however, not everything is as simple as it first appears to the bounty hunting duo.
