When Kai grows up as a very poor little girl on the Hawaiian island of Maui, it would appear that she isn’t headed for a very exciting life. She often shrinks under the dominance of her three slightly older brothers that never want to include her, and mostly stays inside and alone by herself or helps her mom out with the daily chores as much as she can tagging along as a little five-year-old. But all that begins to change when Kai receives a very special gift from her mom and meets four other kids her age named Plumeria, Koa, November and Sticks at a her first neighborhood backyard party.
