Description
The term SigInt is derived from the Communication-Intelligence units of the U. S. Navy. In later years it becomes known as the Navy Security Group (NSG). Colonel (Col) Lasswell was a Marine infantry officer and like many other military officers attended the Japanese language training in Japan prior to WWII. However, his first love, as a Marine was being involved with rifle range assignments.
After he graduated from language training he was suppose to be transferred back into the infantry. However, God had other plans for him, which is brought up in the story. Due to a shortage of linguist personnel he was transferred to Philippines as a translator. He was due to return to the Marine Corps at the end of that tour, but he found himself heading for China for another year. As faith would have it, his return to the Marines was just a short assignment and in the spring of 1941 he found himself working in the Pacific Fleet as a linguist. He remained at this unit for four years, but was assigned duty in Washington DC until the war ended.
Yet, all was not lost for he went on to find himself with the Navy at Pearl Harbor. His gift from God was in his mind and you will find he did more for our nation and both the Navy and Marine Corps, yet he has not been fully honored by either of them. His name is not on the NSA Wall of Honor, as it should be, nor has the United States Marine Corps honored him, as they have never truly understood the nature of those working in Signal Intelligence.
