Description
In this book I describe and discuss a model of how and why solar flares are often associated with planetary influences as seen from the sun. It is an analogous model inspired, in general concepts by the Bohr Rutherford model of atomic structure, and based on Airy's canal theory of the tides. It is able to explain all the data relevant to the solar cycle. I also show that the approaches to understanding the solar cycle, in mathematical, computational and statistical terms, developed by some applied mathematicians, are logically flawed and have little predictive relevance to reality. At the end of the book I also give an assessment of the extremely unscientific criticism of the basic theory of the work, which I developed with two of my students, Andrew Turner and to Mike Willmott, made by the applied mathematical community.
