Description

This essay 'The Enigma of the Conjunction' equates the problem of the union of two antagonistic poles such as the Good and Evil, or War and Peace, or the man and woman, etc. The Evil, for example, it seems that engulfed the world: it is very dangerous, it's dark and it's very difficult to know how to deal with it. Dealing with Evil is not a task for one man alone, and it is a reality that must be taken very seriously! The darkness of the Evil are strange, they cannot be explained rationally because they have their own intelligence and their logic that has to be regarded with the utmost seriousness! The darkness is gloomy in everything that appreciates, think and understand about them and therefore can only be enlightened by what for them is unexpected, unwanted and incomprehensible. Only an incomprehensible light can illuminate the darkness in the opacity of their blackness. (Jung, 1971: "Mysterium Conjunctionis". Vol 1, § 337, Fr. Ed.)
How to harmonize the Evil and the Good is an enigma: the two are a pair of opposites in permanent conflict and, to balance a pair of opposites it is necessary to put them in the two plates of a balance. A very old saying teaches that "the virtue is in the middle" which means that the solution of these enigmas of harmonization of opposites is in the tongue of the balance! We can only achieve an equilibrium or agreement if there is a compromise between the two realities that, by nature, are separated. To take such a labor to a conclusion, one of the scales cannot be empty and the other full, which means that the two opposing poles of a pair of opposites are inseparable. Here it can be anticipated that a unilateral vision of a problem can never lead to a real solution. The 'science' and 'reason' currently reached high levels. However, rereading the old alchemists and looking around us, we see that the problem of human suffering has not yet been resolved. What we see every day, to the life, it is the echo of the sad reality that surrounds us and whose practical consequences are unpredictable.
When making decisions regarding the fate of the people, leaders from all over the world – and all of us - should take due account that, everything that is done wrong: all the injustices and suffering caused to other human beings, it has consequences and inevitably will have to be paid, directly or indirectly!
This brief essay is intended to draw attention of potential readers to the ways that the alchemists pointed to give meaning to life, an echo that has not lost its relevance. This eco lost in time was taken up by Jung in the last century. By my side,, I try to draw attention to the works of Jung, in a short and sweet way, informing of their works to all those who, not being experts in the field and not having much time to read, are interested in these topics!
