It’s hard to believe there can be an even more annoying question than the classical “What should I wear today?”. And that’s the “What should I wear for this specific event?” question.

The question no woman can escape these days, when our modern lifestyle is filled with all sorts of social events, from the most formal ones, such as weddings and red carpet parties, to the most casual night out with friends.
And while wearing what makes you feel comfortable and look at your best should always guide you when choosing your outfits, you must also consider the occasion itself and the place where you’re heading.

Some invitations, especially those for formal events, specify a certain dress code the guests must follow (formal, semi-formal, black tie, smart-casual etc.), but there are plenty of other events you must attend that leave you out in the dark when it comes to the clothing part.
A Valentine’s Day date, the first day at school, a night out with the girls or a day at the beach – these happenings don’t come with a dress code. But this doesn’t mean there is none!
There is an implied dress-code for every event and occasion and it takes into account some basic fashion rules, common sense and practicality.

You can’t wear your stilettos on the beach or celebrate your parent’s golden anniversary dressed in a little black dress that barely covers your behind, can you?
You could say: But I don’t like rules! I wear what I want, when I want!”. Ok, it’s your choice, but then prepare yourself to feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, because when you’ll wear white at somebody else’s wedding people will be looking at you, and not in a good way.
And there is always the risk of upsetting or embarrassing the host of the party and the people you go out with if you don’t dress appropriately for the occasion.
Maybe you don’t like it, but clothes do make the man! It’s quite impossible not to judge the others according to the way they dress.
Clothing is essential for creating a great first impression, as the clothes we choose to wear define a big part of our attitude and personality.

Who strikes you first?

Instinctively, you feel attracted to people who look nice and well-dressed, because attitude and clothes have a bigger impact than other features, such as facial features, height or weight.

But let’s make it clear!

“well-dressed” does not equal expensive clothing and accessories!

You can have all the money in the world and buy the latest creations from top leading clothing brands, if you don’t know how to wear them, how to accessorize and when to wear them, you will look tacky, at best overdressed or underdressed.
