Two parallel groups of characters navigate modern America and are strung together by proximity. Coworkers chat, lovers get together, and loneliness is brought to a head. Daniel Dalton falls for his morbidly obese neighbor, Miss Christine. Skelly Henderson runs his small-time criminal operation. Our narrator navigates young adulthood with his friends Shepard and Ashley. And between them, Dr. Doug wreaks havok. As their paths criss-cross, a gambling hall, a thrift store, and local government get embroiled in chaos.
