She meets a helpful woman who arranges a secure younger identity for her and manages to adopt her.
Taj cashes in on her publicity after discovering a pedophile torturer who worked for the previous oppressive regime in Argentina, and uses her martial arts skills to open her first dojo. Later she opens more dojos and uses these to house, employ and help battered women and their kids.
Despite doing well financially, Taj is very lonely for her old companions. She taught everyone else to love, so the first person each of the others learnt to love was herself. She had grown accustomed to needing and giving large amounts of love. Her heart shrivels painfully without it. She continues sending love to all her old friends, not knowing if they are still alive or not, free, or recaptured, yet receives no replies and they don’t respond to any of her prearranged messages.
She meets Paul, an occasional Romance novel cover model who specializes in Nordic vampires. Paul has perfect proprioception—the ability to repeat her martial art moves exactly after once seeing them, despite his different physique. Together they invent a new way of teaching martial arts rapidly, achieving in three days what few people could manage in a lifetime of training.
