My name is Faith Holliday. When people ask I tell them my father was a preacher, my mother a travel planner, only half of which is true. I am one-half of the agency Holliday Rosado and Associates, an all female crew of investigators who--for a fee--specialize in tracking down cheating ex-husbands and dead-beat dads. Contrary to what many suspect, there are no lesbians among us. If we hate some men in particular, we hate no man in general.

When my partner Rosie Rosado and I first meet with a potential new client at her Hollywood Hills home, the woman is sunning herself by the pool, on her tummy, all greased up and wearing nothing but a teeny-weeny bit of bikini separating cheeks between which she could squash a grape. Even to me she looks yummy, like a hot buttered croissant. Dismissing feelings of either envy or inadequacy, we happily agree to represent the woman in the case against her husband, a noted Hollywood cosmetic surgeon. After all, there are millions at stake and as Rosie is quick to point out the client is the type who could make our year. But as I am fond of reminding my troops, it’s what you don’t know that comes back to bite you. And despite appearances, in this case I am dangerously ill-informed. I soon come to realize that the woman is the link to a million dollar fortune for which others are willing to kill: her, me, and pretty much anyone else who stands in their way.
