“The Red Tent,†the title of the story, refers to the tent in which women of Jacob’s tribe have to live during menstruation and at the time of giving birth to children. It is an ancient law and custom.
It is in that red tent, their sisters, mothers, and aunts support and encourage the women who are going through menstruation or giving birth.
Since the author has adapted the biblical story of Jacob’s family, the novel has always been controversial.
According to some critics, particularly Jewish and Christians, the author has deliberately made this story blasphemous, against the Bible.
