Stiletto was also privileged to go out on special services, such as going on a hunt for submarine bases. Again, Knights ingenious methods and experience make the mission a success …
Amongst other missions, destroying German U-boats, cruising through a seabed thick with mines, Stiletto gracefully comes to the rescue of several vessels that have come under attack. A successful string of missions under the command of Lieutenant Knight and his experienced crew ensure Stiletto is highly commended by the commodore.
But its final mission is one that requires the utmost courage…
John S. Magerison recounts first-hand tales of the Seventeeth Destroyer Flotilla’s H. M. S. Stiletto’s — led by Lieutenant Harry Knight and aided by Sub-Lieutenant Wilfred Vaughan — odd jobs performed for the Commodore in charge of the destroyers.
John S. Margerison authored several books around the topic of the Royal Navy. Margerison married in 1907 and had three children. Margerison also worked as an advertising manager, travelling to Bombay, India, in the 1920 and was editor of the Netherlands Indies Review. He is the author of The Navy’s Way, The Sure Shield, Petrol Patrols, amongst many others.
