Rabbits are an extremely efficient way to produce meat in a very small space with little input. The ideal Urban Homesteading animal, they take very little space, make no noise, and can produce a remarkable amount of meat per animal. Housing is a key factor in the health and productivity of the herd. A rabbit cage needs to keep the rabbits confined, protect them from predators, and be easy to clean. All wire cages are best for production rabbits as any wood will absorb urine which results in ammonia fumes. All wire cages can easily be sterilized if a rabbit dies of a disease or unknown causes. Wire nest boxes have the same advantages and can be
lined with cardboard during colder weather.

This unique cage design uses 6 feet less wire than comparably sized square cages and has an integrated divider and hay rack. The curved top makes this design very strong. The cages also use fewer clips, but require more cutting.
For the Doe cages, I've incorporated an optional in-floor wire nestbox. Lowered nestboxes can prevent losses since kits pulled out by the doe can get back in even when very small. Wire nestboxes are clean warmth. A separate door allows you to check on kits without reaching into the doe's territory. A "trap floor" closes when the nestbox is not needed.
