Description
Germany is currently experiencing a wave of immigration that was neither foreseen nor planned. For most of these immigrants, Germany as a country and the German culture present many challenges. The language combined with bureaucracy will seem to be the biggest hurdles but true integration into German society will present the biggest challenge of all. Many will become despondent and return to their home countries or go elsewhere.
Like most people coming to Germany, we weren t that well prepared for what we found and we found little official or formal help along the way.
Our how to guide book touches on aspects that makes the integration process into life in Germany somewhat easier. It is an honest and open, non-judgemental collection of bite-sized facts and observations from our perspectives as immigrants on how Germans typically behave and how life in Germany generally is. What Germans do and what the important things are for them in their normal, day-to-day lives at home, socially, work-wise and community wise.
The book is for people either considering making Germany their new home, for those already planning it or are those already in the process of settling in and making a new life in this dynamic, multi faceted and exciting country. Whether they re planning to stay a while or forever, this book is intended to help them to better understand the behaviour they see around them and make sense of their neigbours, colleagues and friends.
It is neither an abstract nor an academic study, nor is it a satirical or critical view on Germany or German life. It is not meant to spark a debate on how well Germany is doing to integrate its immigrants, but aims to make it practical and easier for people new to Germany to become part of the everyday life.
