Kitty's day has finally come. After a long, rocky romance with Detective Sterling Slaughter their relationship has blossomed as easily as spring flowers when he proposes. And Kitty could not be happier. She spends her days planning their wedding and her nights getting to know his family.

The engagement means the world to Sterling. He's found the one. Kitty is perfect for him, though her nosey if not bubbly nature takes its toll. It would seem they've hit their romantic stride. If only his dark past wasn't destined to catch up to him… he does what he can to hide it from Kitty, keep her happy, and otherwise enjoy their life together.

But when Kitty's cousin, Layla is found dead in the forest behind her house, it's clear to Sterling what's happened. His mother died in the exact same manner as well as his first wife. And he's plagued with fear knowing that Layla wasn't the one who was supposed to die.

Sterling must dive into his past and make connections he's always been too terrified to face. If he doesn't, the killer will strike again.
