Description
George Bird Grinnel (1849-1938) was an American naturalist and writer. His second name is a speaking one: George loved birds from his early childhood. The family mansion where he lived in during his childhood had an extension of a barn which contained a collection of birds' skins. During his college years Grinnel didn't reveal a lot of talent in studying but an immense desire to become a naturalist. He got his first major experience in this field in 1874 while on an expedition to the Black Hills. What made him different from many other expeditors was his ability to get on well with the locals — The Pawnee Indians, who eventually gave him a name of 'White Wolf'. He carried his love for Natives and the Nature throughout his entire life and published a lot of book on the topic of the Conservation movement.
