What Tides Offer Islands

The novel tells the tale of Alex Lance, a seventeen year old junior at Millstone High School. Alex isn't exactly a nerd and he certainly isn't a member of the school's popular elite. Alex isn't alone, though. He has Arthur, his good friend, to help him through the bad times, although things may change as Annabelle Heyward, the late millionaire's daughter catches both Alex and Arthur's eyes.

A high school romance may be the least of Alex's problems as he begins experimenting with recreational drugs before eventually stealing powerful pharmaceuticals from his elderly neighbor, Old Mr. Jack. And who could blame him after his father's death? He becomes an addict and every time he attempts to kick the habit, horrific night terrors ensure there is no sleep to be had. Night after night Alex endures this twilight suffering before he is able to sneak away with a few more pills, but eventually the supply runs dry. How will Alex cope? Can he keep his not-so-little secret? Only time will tell.
