Silver Lake is a rural farming town on the Mississippi River near Mingo Wildlife Refuge, in the Cape Girardeau area. It is known for its year-round extreme sports such as hot air balloons, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting and parachute sports. And in the winter, there is the annual snow mobile race and cross-country skiing. This year the internet suddenly disappeared. There was no WiFi anywhere in town. The town was set back a quarter of a century. It was so difficult to find the hackers that it was suspected that the problem concerned a hacked satellite and an international cartel located possibly in Europe. NASA was called in and the CIA also followed them due to the possible international implications. Asia Reynolds, a local documentary filmmaker and primary character in the first Silver Lake mystery, It All Comes Out In The Wash, made the acquaintance of Rudolph Voss, the NASA representative in town, who was also a fine virtuoso classical pianist. She invited him to stay in her home. He was enthralled with her new Yamaha baby grand piano. Zucchini, Asia's huge German Shepard/Husky dog was in a terrible fight with Frankie Franklin's new rescued dog, Hunny, a very large St. Bernard. Jealousy was seen as the motive. Elise Snuggles has an engagement party and Sgt. Sheila Rodriguez is, as usual, torn between her private life and her role as a commanding officer of the Silver Lake Police Department. She does not like the primitive use of land lines and mailing thumb drives and SD cards in the post as opposed to using the internet. And she hates walkie-talkies as opposed to cell phones. When will they be back online? We shall see...
