Leaving to Teach English in Japan: A Brief Look at Experiences and Humor Found in Moving to a Very Different Culture

This book will present the experience of the author in preparing to qualify for overseas teaching of ESOL, obtaining teaching certification, getting resume experience and looking for an overseas opportunity to teach English overseas as a native speaker. Experiences of the author in obtaining these educational goals will be shown. Additionally, the problems involved with such things as visa and passport are shown. Planning the route of an international flight may be a new experience and the understanding of the great circle method of determining a route to the other side of the world is shown through the author’s errors.

Packing and planning wisely for the journey for a new adventure in education is shown. The documents that might be needed when going through customs is addressed. Of course passports and a visa are documents that must be original and official. The letter offering the position and the diploma as well as a teaching certificate could be useful when facing a stern customs official.

These are all presented in a form that will entertain and provide a humorous look at the experiences of one who has made the Journey to Teach English in Japan.
Aboiut the author: William “Bill” Jermyn has been a teacher for roughly 15 years in the public school setting. He has also functioned as a salesman and seminar instructor.
