Description
Tricks in mathematics for all competitions and school exams the is the first part in the series and exhaustively covers the chapter percentage.Mathematics is an intriguing subject in which children find a lot of difficulties. Courses have been available for them that cover the most basic concepts of it, but not the advanced stuff. For the first time we are introducing to you an approach that has only been available through the classroom teaching so far. In this course you will learn to tackle the most difficult problems in very simple ways. So we begin with the calculations. Writing this course material has been both challenging and time-taking. I had intended this course to serve as on stop shop for all needs of the students appearing for various aptitude tests. Apart from mainly serving the students of various exams that tests numerical aptitude, it is going to serve any student who intends to appear for subjective tests as well. So, it will give you, basically a way to think logically, yet in a refreshingly easy way. When students approach me and tell me that they had covered everything that was written in 'Vedic Mathematics' yet fail to solve questions from competitions I feel sad about it. You know why? It is because vedic mathematics has discussed everything in it that a student may ever need in order to easily solve any question from any examination! I will explain how these ideas should be used.
Don't think that you are going to be given the same rules again. If needed I will simply remind you of those techniques and the great Indian wisdom that have been given in the form of short one line 'sutras' that are self- explanatory. A logical method leads to the other and so on. If you understand the whole of vedic math as one single rule only then you have understood the concepts well otherwise not. Let me give you an example. The first rule that I had learned from the vedic math was 'nikhilam navtashcharmam' that literally means, all from nines and the last from ten. The day I understood this concept I had realized how anyone can subtract any number from 100 or 1000 or 10000 etc. Think about the number 97654 to be subtracted from 100000. All that you need to do is take away all these digits from 9s and the last one from 10. Therefore the answer is 02346 and that's it! Now the question arise who asks us to subtract a number from 10, 100, 1000 etc. If you go to the market to buy something then you will be able to use it, and better still you will be able to multiply quickly! Yes, the other formula of vedic math makes use of this easy subtraction.
O.K. so now we know that each of these formulae needs to be developed logically. A few people will tell you that there are algebraic derivations behind these sutras. Maybe the writers of vedic math made use of algebra but yet gives you a unique way of thinking. You can also develop your own rules! Try to create a trick on your own. Well, this book leaves little room for you to think about the tricks. Ideas have been explored and exhausted in such a way that you get a unique way of thinking.
At the beginning I had promised you that these rules are good for any exam, any stream of education. In fact it should be your first goal to achieve mastery over arithmetical calculations. For the students of science we will add chapters later on physics and chemistry, essentially the numerical parts of them.
Let us begin this exciting journey. I will advise you to purchase a book of vedic math if you can. Another advice is to read the newspaper. If you have been reading your school books and the newspaper you will find no difficulty in answering other questions of these competitive exams. They will test your general awareness. I did not like to read the newspaper because of many reasons and it proved to be a hindrance. Don't procrastinate. Read the dictionary as well for words and pronunciation. You need to pronounce the words correctly. Be aware of actual techniques because we're not r
