Description
Congratulations! You are taking the first step on your journey towards performance excellence. Six Sigma is a challenging and enlightening journey. Along the way you will learn a lot, tackle many obstacles and deliver great results. When you finish your journey you will look back and see just how much you and the people you brought with you have grown. You will feel a great sense of accomplishment and you will no doubt be planning your next adventure into the unknown.
So why are you reading this book? If you are passionate about learning new skills, trying new tools, methodologies and challenging the status quo, then Six Sigma is for you. If you enjoy structured approaches like project management or, conversely, if you are frustrated by current work processes and poor practices, then Six Sigma is for you. In fact, Six Sigma is a methodology that can be learned and applied to improve almost any aspect of a business.
Whilst there is a lot of information available on Six Sigma, I believe there is a need to make things simple after all, this approach has always worked for me.
I have written this book to try and shed some light at an introductory level on the subject of Six Sigma, at least starting the journey with the Green Belt. It is important to note that this book does not cover all aspects of a Green Belt and should be considered far from an in-depth dive into statistical analysis principles. It is however, an insight into what lies ahead on the Six Sigma journey and provides an overview of Six Sigma deployment and the associated tools.
As I said at the start, Six Sigma is a journey to performance excellence. For me there are three clear elements required to achieve and sustain performance excellence:
1) Clear Instruction - having a clearly defined methodology and tools available to follow,
2) People Development - empowering individuals and teams to learn and grow. By this I mean they understand the theory but most importantly of all, practice the implementation in live business situations,
3) Culture Evolution - make the changes sustainable. Let your new champions act as a lever to unhinge the tipping point in your business.
So I say well done to you on accepting the challenge and good luck on your journey. Always remember, it s not where on the path you stand that s important, but rather the direction in which you face.
