Much has changed in the world since the fall of Muria, more than a millennia ago. With the bloodline of the sorcerers thought to be wiped out, magic became legend and the strange power contained in ancient aether stones has become the focus of science. Yet even now there remain some who can feel a dark force stirring.

The Grand Empire of Xarkanthus faces a rebel army, led by an enigmatic woman. The tree-worshipping Draumuric religion fades and the technologically obsessed Kratarthian order rises, spreading hated of the Lyrian minority and fear of the magic they are said to possess. The emperor moves to install his ally on the throne, even as his swordsman son draws the ire of many. An artifact that caused the destruction of an entire city a decade ago has gone missing, and a sorcerer who was long ago presumed dead has been seen lurking in shadows.
