Description

According to Steven M. Pappas, former editor of the Sunday Monitor in Concord, New Hampshire, "While the rest of us spend our time shambling through our lives, Joyce is going after windmills. Her quixotic attacks aren't against the political establishment or policy wonks. Her targets are much more dangerous She goes after the very shambling and bumbling that get us through our lives. Every one of us is her fodder; every nuance is a spark. It's open season on trends with her." He continues, "She's a thinker, except that with every subject she takes up, she overlays it with humor."
For approximately two years in the mid-2000s, Wagner's humor column, "Overthinking," appeared in the Sunday Monitor - usually on Page 1. She covered such diverse subjects as Feng Shui, loud-mouthed media, holidays, growing up, movies, cleaning products, relationships, and traveling -- all unraveled to their sparest string.
In 2006, Plaidswede Publishing in Concord, New Hampshire, published a collection of the columns as the first of their New England Columnists Series. This is a (mostly) intact reproduction of that book.

WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE PAPERBACK VERSION:

"Joyce Wagner is phenomenal! Now I know what it's like for someone to make ME laugh!" -- Lenny Clarke, stand-up comedian and sitcom star.

"'Random Overthoughts' isn't just LOL (Laugh Out Loud) but downright ROL (Read Out Loud). Wagner's wry take on the stuff of ordinary life - air spats, motherhood, candlesticks, and sports announcers - gives us a refreshing new voice in humor writing. Everyone should do a little 'overthinking' now and again." -- Susan Wilson, New York Times best selling author

"Joyce Wagner says she has as high traffic brain. 'Random Overthoughts' is the Rolls Royce of humor columns and reading it is one bumper-to-bumper jam you will absolutely love! She's smart and really, really funny!" -- Nancy Slonim Aronie, author, filmmaker and NPR commentator.

"Those of us who share Joyce Wagner's peculiar affliction can take comfort in this new collection. Turning her sharp wit loose on subjects as varied as motherhood, television sports, and feng shui, Wagner cuts the sweet and the sour of everyday life. Even in her deepest moments of existential, over-thinking angst, she never fails to get the last laugh." -- Jim Collins, former editor of Yankee Magazine, author of the New York Times best seller, "The Last Best League."

"Joyce Wagner's columns apply the feng shui of good-humored common sense to life as we know it. Without a doubt, she knows us all very well. Still, good fortune, happiness, and many sons remain a challenge, as she would certainly admit." -- Doug Cabral, Editor, Martha's Vineyard Times.
