The Maharshi was Siva manifested, the divine Guru who taught, through silence and was therefore identified with Dakshinamurti. His real teaching came from the spiritual power He radiated but, He did answer questions put to Him by seekers. A few devotees were fortunate to receive a set of complete instructions from Him. Sivaprakasam Pillai, Gambhiram Seshayyar and Swami Natanananda are among them. They gave us ‘Who am I?’, ‘Self-Enquiry’ and ‘Spiritual Instructions’ respectively.

Though His highest teaching was primarily through Silence, the Maharshi nevertheless graciously taught the path of Self-enquiry to all who came, from India and abroad. He also graciously presented us with a series of beautifully crafted poems which summarized succinctly His path. He composed the most beautiful devotional poem, Aksharamanamalai to adore Arunachala. This volume brings together all the poems written by Him as well as original teachings and translations of Bhagavan and devotional hymns written about Bhagavan with transliterations and meanings.
