Empyrean #1: The Emperor Sun

In 1998, the world, in a fevered rage of intolerance for any with special powers, designed a place to imprison and separate any that they thought posed a threat to the rest of civilization. With the combined efforts of fifteen countries, a floating prison was created high above the Pacific ocean. It was positioned politically as a last resort to contain some of the most dangerous and deadly--those who used their powers to harm others. The reality was sometimes much different.As the years went by and political climates shifted, what was considered criminal use of powers could come down to simply having any powers at all.These floating island prisons consisted of one main island known simply as Empyrean. A second island, largely unpopulated, was mostly wilderness that had been intended for expansion. There was also a third, named only Black Rock. You did not want to end up on Black Rock.The first two years of these island prisons went as smoothly as possible and positioned the governments’ control to begin to establish a mimicked version of daily life. That was before Emperor Sun arrived on Empyrean.With his right hand of absolute death, he raised a mad resistance to the military rule of the world below. Managing to break down any power-dampening technology the islands had, the people became free, and the Emperor Sun became unto a god. The world below withdrew, though it still rocketed those deemed villains up into rocky embrace of this prison, as well as forever keeping it enclosed in a powerful, unseen forcefield. It is now 2019…
