Molly Ryan was never one to be afraid of an honest day's work. She prepared and kneaded and filled the ovens before daybreak every day in the bakery in New York, while caring for her grandmother. When she started the heartbreaking task of clearing out her Gram’s possessions she found out she had big aspirations for her beloved granddaughter.

She is well pleased with the flaming haired Molly who arrives in Dead Water Creek as mail-order-bride for her oldest son, Sheriff William Cecil. Even Hank, her younger son, took to the girl, who was way prettier than Agnes had dared hope for.

All is however not as it would at first appear. False pretences and hidden agendas are very soon uncovered, and drastic action is needed for all involved to emerge unscathed. The perceived savior may well turn out to be the vulnerable one; the romantic fiance may prove unwitting; the aloof brother, the cornerstone and the grieving, incorrigible.
