Description

This relatively short e-book contains two essays on Finland first found in Harper’s New Monthly Magazine, Volume LXXXII, December 1890 – May 1891 and meticulously edited to be historically accurate to the original versions. There is a free kindle version of Harper’s Magazine which covers this time period, but it is missing these articles on Finland and the scans of the original illustrations from Harper’s Magazine when it was published in book format. Henry Lansdell, D.D., (1841-1919) is an author who wrote for Harper’s from 1887 to 1891. He is also the author of several other works found on Amazon.com

Albert Edelfelt (1855-1905) was a well-known Swedish speaking Finnish painter who was selected as the main motif in a recent Finnish commemorative coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth, minted in 2004.

The essays describe the Finns of 1890 as a unique race of people and give a first-hand account of how the country at that time presented itself to two famous men of the era.

I believe the information and illustrations found within my e-book version of the essays on Finland can only be found in the original books or magazines making this a unique view of Finland.
