Shakthi Peethas: Divine Verses on Holy Hindu Places
Description
The enchanting story of the Shakthi Peethas, places of worship of the divine mother, stems from the story of Sati and Shiva. Shiva in his grief held the dead body of Sati and Lord Vishnu severed the divine body into many parts to attempt to end Shiva’s grief. Each part fell in a specific location and became a site of worship and pilgrimage. Shiva saw that each part was protected by a Bhairava, a fearsome avatar of Himself. This book presents the verses which Mother Shakthi herself spoke, naming the places of all Shakthi peethas in the Indian subcontinent, the name of the devi and and the accompanying Bhairava devata at each site.
