Defending Against Web Site Vulnerabilities

The World Wide Web, the ultimate wide area network, is as prone to security breaches as any LAN or WAN. Web sites have many of the same vulnerabilities and security fixes as do enterprise networks. Web servers are attacked as frequently as any other system, but with more widespread consequences. Even more frustrating, the many holes in Web sites are exploited over and over. Why? Because some webmasters leave known program vulnerabilities unpatched and known configuration weaknesses uncorrected.
