From the supplier: Optical mark recognition technology, manifested in scanning devices and software systems, is automating and expanding the classroom teacher's ability to design, score and evaluate student tests. Two leading manufacturers of scanning hardware are Scantron Corp and Scanning Systems. Scantron's Model 8600 scanning device converts standard or custom-designed materials into standard ASCII format. Scanning Systems SR-360X and SR-380X models offer a secondary communications port and can read ink and pencil markings. Among the many full-featured software programs for testing and scoring are Economics Research Inc's ParSYSTEM, which can support classes as large as 2,000 students and as many as 90 tests per student. The MicroCAT Testing System from Assessment Systems Inc and TRANSMUTE from Harrier Technology's Performance Plus enables the instructor to develop and manipulate a comprehensive database of student performance and curricular data.
