From the supplier: The three basic types of multimedia software applications available on the market are programs for integrated learning, exploratory tools such as encyclopedias, archives, and other data base products and simulation software. In the first category, products such as IBM's language skills series are at the forefront. The language and literacy series is comprised of Writing to Read, Stories and More, Writing to Write, and Principle of the Alphabet Literacy System. Exploratory multimedia data base tools include National Geographic's Mammals: A Multimedia Encyclopedia and The Presidents, The 1991 New Grolier's Electronic Encyclopedia and many others. Simulation software is being used increasingly by medical and law schools to simulate medical diagnostic and legal caseworks exercises. It is also used to advance the study of both social and physical sciences.
