From the supplier: The merger of CNA Financial Corp with Continental Corp likely will result in the layoff of between 3,000 and 6,000 employees. The combined workforce of the two companies numbers approximately 21,000 employees, and the redundancies would trim the workforce of the merged insurer to between 15,000 and 18,000 employees. The cutbacks would reduce the duplication of personnel and boost efficiency and will primarily be accomplished through attrition.
