From the supplier: House Banking Committee Chmn Jim Leach is urging House leaders to meet and consider ways to push through banking legislation. The two bills before the chamber contain elements that offend both banking and insurance interests, making compromise difficult. The first repeals the Glass-Steagall Act, which separates commercial banking and investment banking. The other prevents the Comptroller of the Currency from allowing banks to offer insurance, but permits ventures between banks and insurers.
