From the supplier: Genetic engineering in plants is receiving mixed reactions from federal agencies, consumer groups and bioscientists as confusion arises as to which new plant should be labeled as biotechnologically produced. According to the FDA, edible fruits of newly-developed plant varieties must be as safe as the current product. In the case of vegetable varieties produced through somoclonal variant breeding, the FDA currently mandates that no special labeling is necessary. On the other hand, consumerists continue their publicity campaign against bioengineered fruits and vegetables.
