The Emergence of Lincoln, Volume 2; Prologue to the Civil War, 1859-1861

The last book in Allan Nevins' four-book series, beginning with Ordeal of the Union, Volume I and II, and the Emergence of Lincoln, volume II, this book covers the last two years of peace in the United States, leading up to the Civil War. It includes John Brown's Raid, The break-up of the Democratic Party, the status of Slavery in the world, the election of Lincoln and the secession of the Southern States.

These four books will give the reader an understanding of the United States from 1846 to 1861 unparalleled by any other source. It goes into extensive detail the individuals involved, the industrial, economic, political and religious state of the nation and as unbiased an explanation of why people were acting as they were. For the individual with a passion for history, these books are as close as one gets to actually being there...

Included is an extensive 56 pages of notes, as well as an exhaustive bibliography and appendices which discuss, in greater detail, some of the details discussed in the book. I hope I have provided a service, here; these efforts to bring this series to Kindle format over two years have been a labor of; there is no real money in historical books so old, and no other reason for me to have done this except to ensure I could get this on MY Kindle, and, while I am doing it, provide the same resource to others who might be interested.
