But he learns that things are not going well on the other two planets originally chosen as new homes for Earthlings---Futura and Aurora. They are punishingly hostile to human life and now they have produced a deadly new threat—entities who can mind-invade humans and take control.
And there are mysterious entities, the Creatures of the Rapture who regard humans as foul and vulgar beings who offend their sensibilities.
Meanwhile, back on Optima, the sorcerer Garak the Beast is planning to assassinate Colonel Strang. And strange events seem to indicate that a new breed of children is being born on Optima – they are psychokinetic and precognitive and telepathic. There are also astounding manifestations of reincarnation.
