📖 Description
Very few are aware of the small yet influential 'No. 1 Aerodrome construction squadron' - a squadron of the Air Force, that not only never flew, but had no intention of ever flying. The Squadron was formed to meet the changing strategy in defence of Singapore and Malaya. All personnel were selected for their skill in various trades, and for their ability to do heavy work with heavy machinery. Few had Military training and experience, but all were to play an important part in the building of Airfields in defence of the indefensible Singapore and Malaya. This Squadron was the first of its kind in Air Forces of the world, and has paved the way for Modern Air Forces, where they often have less planes than Navies and entire non-combat squadrons. Before the fall of Singapore, all had come under fire from the Japanese both on the ground, and in the air. Part One "Bombs and Bulldozers" is the first Part of the 'We never had a Chance' trilogy dealing with the Battle of Malaya/Singapore 1941-42.
