Saga of South Pass featuring the Carmichael family
By Linda Walker

Volume 1 contains the first three books of the Saga of South Pass featuring the Carmichael family. It tells of a family trying to survive in the early years of a small town in the unorganized territory, later to become known as the Wyoming Territory.
Follow along with the Carmichaels as they work to hold onto their ranch, get married, and start a family. Laugh with them, and cry with them, but most of all, rejoice with them as they make each new friend.

Book 1 Frankie

Frankie Carmichael was the oldest daughter of Franklin and Catherine Carmichael, who at the age of six, traveled to a new territory called the unorganized territory in 1850, later to be known as the Wyoming Territory. At the time of their relocation, Frankie was an only child, but as the years moved forward, she gained five sisters and two brothers who were twins.
Frankie learned to ride, shoot, and work as good if not better than any man in the territory. Her pa taught all the children to do the same. Life was good until one day when Frankie was twenty-seven. The Sheriff came to inform them that their parents, Frank and Cathy, had been killed on their way into town. If that wasn’t bad enough, the law in Wyoming stated that a female, who had never been married, could not hold the title to any property.
Frankie asked the sheriff what she could do so they wouldn’t lose their one-thousand-acre ranch. He tells her the only thing is that one of the girls would have to get ‘hitched.’ Being in a mining area, there weren’t too many young men available for marriage, so they devise a plan to place an ad for a mail-order groom.
What they thought would be a simple task turned out to hold so many problems. Can the girls really do this, and can they find a man that isn’t just trying to get the ranch away from them? What will the sheriff do to ensure the siblings can keep their ranch?

Read Frankie and find the answers to all these questions.

Book 2 Carrie

The girls decide they all want to marry, so one by one they would send for a mail order groom. Carrie decides if they are to do it this way, they might as well ask for a husband to help out their small growing town. She had always been interested in medicine, so she figures it would be best for her to ask for a doctor.
She learns the Pastor’s brother is just finishing doctor school and suggests maybe he would be interested in coming west. She discusses it with Pastor Luke, and he thinks it would be great to have his brother with him. So, he gives her Mark’s address. However, that does not work out so well, but she is surprised at the alternative.
Read Carrie to find out just what this alternative is and how Carrie adjusts to it.

Book 3 Mary Lou

Mary Lou is a little spitfire. When she wants something, she goes after it any way she can. However, this time, it might just backfire on her. She places an ad for a mail-order groom who is a teacher. She thinks she is doing the town good if they can get a school going for the children.
However, even though she gets a teacher to write to her, she is not honest with him, and he comes to South Pass with false expectations. However, she might have told him a little white lie to get him there, the one he told her was much greater.

Read Mary Lou’s story to find out what could be worse than a little white lie.
