Mausi (Crow Nation Series Book 1) / Linda Walker

Welcome to Mausi, the first book of my new series ‘Crow Nation.’
The Crow were different in many ways from other Native Americans with their beliefs and customs, but at the same time, they were alike in so many ways. In this new series, I hope to carry my readers once again back to the mid-1700s and give a glimpse into how they lived, loved, and created a life for themselves out of the vast wilderness. My books are all fiction, with sprinkles of truth throughout the book.
Mausi was a beautiful woman who had loved only one warrior her whole life. However, that love was not to be. When she turned eighteen summers, she was to join with the love of her life. On the morning of their joining, a war party of Apache raced into her village and snatched her up before anyone even knew what was happening. As they left her village, she looked back and vowed she would return one day, but little did she know it would take twenty summers (years) to keep that vow.
Mausi knew to survive; she would have to do as her mother had always told her, make yourself of value to anyone who has you. So, she became a strong woman, a healer, and devoted her life to following the Red Path (road to their Creator) Akbaatatdia (One Who Has Made Everything/Maker of All Things Above) had set before her and make it back to her people.
Finally, Mausi finds herself riding toward the village she left so long ago. She hoped her family was alive. The image of her warrior’s face, still as vivid as the day she was taken from him, makes her wonder if he is still there? She knew he would be older, but she was sure she would recognize him, but would he know her? He was probably joined already, and she did not want to cause any problems with his wife; she just wanted to make sure he is alive and safe.
When Mausi arrives at her village, she is welcomed back with open arms, but as she looks around, her love Eagle Man, is not there, but his daughter is.
What Mausi finds surprises her, and she cannot believe where her life takes her. All Mausi can do is trust Akbaatatdia and stay true to who she is.

Read to find out what Mausi’s life was like and how she overcame the adversities that were handed to her.
